Online World Golf Championships Tour Vision
The Online World Golf Championships is a handicapped offline/ online golf tour open to everyone that attempts to simulate a career mode for links through competition with your fellow linksters..
We currently run 3 tours:
Challenge Tour
This is where everyone begins. You establish your handicap here and compete here to win a spot on one of the two main tours. Certain spots are available in certain events as entries into the major championships (see qualifying below) as well as providing money and world ranking points. You can get a promotion to the main tours through one of 3 methods. First by winning three events in a year on the challenge tour. Second by finishing in the top 10 on the challenge tour at the end of the year. Third by winning a spot in the annual Q School tournament held after the end of the season.
(Please note until membership in the European and US tours are full - 144 players in each - promotion from the Challenge Tour is automatic after 20 rounds and your handicap is established))
European Tour
A full fledged tour that follows the events on the European Tour throughout the season. Fight to keep your card and also earn enough dollars to qualify for the World Golf Events and Major Championships and compete for a place in the annual Tour Championship Series. Track your performance through an order of merit and world ranking system
US Tour
A full fledged tour that follows the events on the US tour throughout the season similar to the European Tour
Major Championships & World Golf Championships Events
Throughout the year there are 4 major championships, 3 WGC events, the Players Tournament and the Tour Championship Series at the end of the season that are part of both tours. Spots in these tournaments are awarded based on selection criteria. Qualification for the major championships and WGC events will be as follows - Top 20 players in the world based on world rankings, top 20 on each tour not otherwise exempt, top 2 from challenge tour (provided they have an official 20 event handicap), anyone who has won a major or tour championship in the last 5 years, anyone who has won a wgc event this year
Qualification for the Tour Championship Series is based strictly on earnings and invites the top 30 from each tour. After the first 2 events the field will be cut to the top 30 and ties for the final two events culminating in the Tour Championship Players not eligible for these special events will all compete on that weeks challenge tour tournament to try to make the cut and earn rankin points and dollare to keep their card for next year.
The Mercedes Championships will open the season for both tours and will be for winners only on either tour. An Asian event on the European tour will be held alongside for everyone else regardless of tour eligibility.
Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup Tournaments
Each year there will either be a Ryder Cup or Presidents cup match. Qualification for the ryder cup / presidents cup will be based on $earned in the year prior to the eventt
QSchool Tour Cards and Eligibility
The top 20 players in the world based on the world rankings will be eligible to play on either tour and get to pick which event they want to play. The next 30 players not otherwise exempt based on WR according to the money list on each tour will get full tour playing privilages on the tour they are registered for. Other players will play on the joint tour challenge circuit with the amateurs who do not have a handicap and are not eligible for one of the two main tours. All new comers will start with a handicap of -9 on the challenge tour. This will be adjusted after 10 rounds and permanently to a weekly change after 20 rounds. Following the Tour Championship the top 10 players based on money earnings on each tour will get dual tour cards for both tours for the following year. Anyone winning a major or the tour championship (a combined event for all players) gets dual tour access. The next 20 on each tour will get full playing privilages for the following season The top 10 on the challenge tour will earn a promotion to the main tour of their choice selecting in order of finish 5 to each tour The remaining challenge tour players, new joiners for the following year and players on each tour not keeping their card will compete in a Qschool for the remaining 15 spots on each tour. Again tour selections are based on a first come first serve basis based on Q school finish. Prize money for the year on both tours will be the same. However the money will not be the same each week, this will actually allow players in the top to hop between big money event however it may be harder to win these events. The Fall Series, not eligible to players who have secured their dual tour playing privilages following the tour championship series, is an opportunity for everyone else to battle to keep their playing privilages. Once this series is over Q School will begin. Other Events After Q School is over there will be a series of "Silly Season Events" mostly open to all players on all tours Anyone wishing to host a silly season event ( post fall series) may submit a request to the tour admin to get a slot on the calendar. There will be a grand slam of golf for the winners of the major championships, the fed ex cup and the mercedes championhsips There will be a skins game for 4 people as follows. Longest Drive, most holes in one, lowest scoring average (min 20 events), Highest GIR. That should add a little fun to the stat stuff.
This is the vision of our tour. Come on over and give it a try. You always wanted a career mode that worked. Now come and find out what its like to play in one...
